Yarn: This pattern was written for cotton yarn, your results will be different if other types of yarn are used.
Blue Mandala:
Drops Paris yarn #14 Strong yellow, #06 Shocking Pink, #9 Strong Blue, #2 Light Turquoise
Purple Mandala:
Drops Paris yarn # 11 Opal Green, #31 Medium purple, #08 Dark Purple, #45 dusty
Orange, #33 medium Pink, and #14
Strong Yellow
Stitches used:
slip stitch (ss), single crochet (sc), double crochet (dc), chain (ch), half
double crochet (hdc)
Notes about pattern:
This pattern is written in U.S. terms

a new color after each row to make for a smoother look.

Small Circles (Make 10):
Start with a magic circle
Ch 2, 14 dc in the circle, join with a ss to beginning ch 2, end off,
weave in ends (15 sts)
Mandala Center:
Start with a Magic Circle
Rd 1: Ch 2, 14 dc in the circle, join with a ss to beginning ch 2, end
off, weave in ends (15 sts)
Rd 2: join yarn in any dc, ch 2, dc in same st, 2 dc in each st
around, join with ss to beginning ch 2, end off.
Joining small circles to Mandala Center:
Join yarn in any dc, ch 2, join to the small circle with an sc in any dc on the small circle (see photos in blog post here), dc in the
next st, sc in the next st, * dc in the next st, join small circle, dc in the
next st, sc in the next st, repeat from * around, join with ss to beginning ch
2. (To make sure that the small circles end up on the right side, hold the
mandala center and the small circle wrong sides together before attaching) (do
not pull the small circles tight, join them loosely).
Joining small circle together:
Hold two small circles right sides together, using yarn and a yarn
needle, insert the needle through the back of any dc of both of the small
circles, stitch, weave yarn through the back of the circle to the next circle
and join (see photos in blog post here ) continue around for each small circle, end off,
weave in ends
Mandala Edging:
Rd1: join yarn with a sc
to the top of any small circle, *ch 9, sc in the top of the next small circle,
repeat from * around, ss to beginning sc, end off, weave in ends
Rd 2: join yarn with a sc in the 5th ch of the ch 9 from round 1, * ch
5, hdc in the next sc, ch 5, sc in the sc in the 5th ch of the ch 9 from round
1, repeat from * around join with a ss to beginning sc, end off, weave in ends.
Rd 3-4: join yarn in any sc, * ch 5, hdc in next hdc, ch 5, sc in the
next sc, repeat form * around, ss to beginning sc, end off, weave in ends.
*For the blue Mandala I add a decorative embroidery stitch since the
Mandala center was all one color.
